PVC Impact Modifier is an important additive used in the production of rigid and semi-rigid PVC products. It improves toughness and impact resistance, thereby enhancing the durability and overall quality of the final product. PVC is inherently brittle under impact, particularly at low temperatures, and the use of an impact modifier helps absorb impact energy and prevent crack propagation.

This additive is generally supplied as a white powder with good free-flowing properties and uniform particle distribution. In addition to improving impact resistance, it can enhance melt strength, weather resistance and thermal stability while reducing die swell. It also helps produce a more uniform and high-quality surface during extrusion, calendering and molding processes.

Common types of impact modifiers used in PVC include MBS, ABS and EVA, each offering different performance characteristics depending on the product and processing conditions. The appropriate grade should be selected based on the processing method, operating temperature, required impact resistance and other components of the formulation.

PVC impact modifiers are widely used in the production of PVC door and window profiles, calendered PVC sheets and films, PVC pipes and fittings, injection- and blow-molded components, PVC electrical conduits and ducts, and PVC foam products.

The recommended dosage generally ranges from 0.5 to 5 phr, depending on the formulation and processing conditions.
